The purpose of a tourniquet is to stop critical bleeding. The application of a tourniquet is critical in arterial and femoral bleeding. If you do not have a tourniquet, it could quite literally cost you or a family member their life. With that being said, the cold reality is that training is important and not all civilians are able to attend the necessary training to be proficient in trauma care.
